Walk to the island of Licosa
Choose the scenic guest houses of Bellezza Cilento and don’t miss the opportunity to walk to Licosa Island
Licosa is an island on the Tyrrhenian coast, within the Cilento National Park, located in the southern part of Castellabate. Easily accessible from the Bellezza in Cilento facilities, the villas, cottages and apartments are just a short distance from the charming island.
To reach it, just cross a small paved road uphill to the port of San Marco. After about 400 meters, the path becomes unpaved and passes by the sea, just above the cliff. The path continues on level ground among villas, oak woods and wide views of the sea. After about 2 km, on the left side of the mountain, there is a small chapel from the 1800s dedicated to St. Anthony, with beautiful Vietri ceramics. Continuing for another km you pass through the very small village of Licosa, and on the sea side you can see an old manor house with dovecote and private chapel, now converted into a dwelling. Continue on and you reach the small port of Licosa, with the Church and the Palace of Prince Belmonte, to pause and admire a beautiful view of the Gulf of Salerno. From there a short distance away you can take a small path that leads directly to the sea, with beautiful views of the island of Licosa.
Returning to the asphalt road, you can continue for 3 km to the gate of the Belmonte property in Ogliastro Marina, among olive groves and an Aleppo pine forest. Note the typical conformation of the cliff formed by stratification of rocks of different colors, called Flysh cilentano. The island, is also home to a peculiar species of blue-green lizard.
Since ancient times, the island of Licosa, represented an important point for navigation and, to this day, is one of the most characteristic and naturalistic places in the area.
